The very first step is to clean up the accumulation of debris, dirt, wax, and other residues that got stuck over the years. This is possible by using a travertine stripper. When applying the stripper solution, use a mop for even and complete the application. Apply at least two coatings of the stripper. After applying the first coating, give it sometime before the second one is done. Then mop the travertine flooring with plain water multiple times till the surface is clean and fresh looking.

  1. Deep steam cleaning:

Steam cleaning is known to be effective to break up and penetrate even the most complex and stubborn floor Residue.  In the process, it can also cover up light scratches or the toughest stains, whether it is on the surface of the travertine tiles or in between each of them.  It works to clear any grout and sanitizes and kills the germs, mildew, and bacteria. Once you have achieved a clean surface, Travertine polishing can have long-lasting effects.

  1. Seal cracks, holes, and chipped areas:

Sealing and repairing any cracks, chips, holes, and broken travertine tile surfaces will restore it to its original beauty and lustre. At this stage, you are one step ahead towards achieving new looking polished tiles. Choose filler compounds like that of epoxy or, any similar looking grout that acts with a strong bond and does not break up easily. It is effective in eliminating any imperfections.

Fill it up step by step as per the instructions that come with the material by giving sufficient time for it to cure.  However, it is important to get matching coloured filler with that of your travertine tile colour.

  1. Cover the edges with plastic sheeting:

The edges of the travertine tiles are more prone to damage during the process.  Hence taping the edges with waterproof tape can protect your flooring.  Store away any furniture, cabinets, dining tables, cupboards, and other accessories in another room, providing plenty of space to carry out the polishing.
